The odd thing about vista for me is that my laptop runs faster with the original VS WITH transparency than another VS without transparency
Tiz an ok day to day OS though and it seems to run photoshop ok on my laptop

I had it from betas, since mah dads a tech net member... yeah, I liked it from the betas, but then I started hearing all kinds of crap about it. I still use it, but I like to switch every so often, to XP... I like deskmodding XP more then Vista...

I've had Vista for about 2 months now.. No problems what-so-ever. Customizing wasn't even hard (for me at least)

I use Leopard and XP on my Mac, but i used to use Vista. IMO its better than XP, but XP works better in parallels and its lighter so i use XP. (use it for visual basic programming for school).
However much you customize Windows, its NEVER going to be as functional and productive as Leopard.

i just installed vista again so that i can play mu and really if you turn everything off and have the proper drivers (that was the major thing in the beginning was the drivers) it really makes the whole OS really good vista is strangely intuitive compared to XP. i cant use XP at school anymore.. its just too slow.

I wish I felt that way about vista, I'm stoked about 7 tbh, the boot speed is got me going haha. Apart from that, I could do with a break from windows, but this hackintosh isn't going very good for me.

I've never really had any problems using Vista. The only screw ups have been self caused (editing things I shouldn't be :p)
On the topic of boot time I'd say mines around 2 minutes. 14 seconds sounds very impressive, any trick to that?

msconfig/autoruns, disable services and generally thin it down to bare minimum lol. I think my vista boot is 30 secs, win 7 is like 15 for me. You got very impressive boot times though .

I think that 7 will be the THING that ms wanted to do with vista
boot times, even for me (i have a 5 year old pc) are good, 7 takes less time than XP to boot up, my ubuntu install takes less of course , but that's other game

I have vista premium, and i love it. Also there seems to so much hate for windows. I do have to agree that windows comes very bloated with crap, but nothing you can't remove easily. For me i prefer to do most of my work on windows. It's just something i'm used to. I love my mac too though. A very smooth OS. Vista is quite customizable though, as is leopard. [Many themes for both] @alxmarcond..... i'm curious as to why you would get rid of Windows Media player and Windows defender? Do you use itunes or foobar2k/winamp or some alternative to Defender? I use Nod32, along with malwarebytes and Defender to keep my sytem running well.

@rui: Ubuntu might as well be windows... including propiotary drivers was the final straw for me and canonical but my recent DVD 9.04 install of Ubuntu has it at one whole minute on the same computer as the otherones on the main RAID HDD :/ Go arch or Gentoo if arch is too much. Its at least still linux

i'm too used to ubuntu, and every now and then i like to run some windows apps on it.. and proprietary devices are a good thing (well at least if they work good) ; i just haven't tried arch cause i don't always have time to do a custom install everytime

prop soft is bad bad bad. i hate using windows prop soft is bad because 1) it would be like that coca cola commercial if one dude who was writing it died. we wouldnt have it anymore. MS gets hit by a nuke, bam, no more windows. Apple gets hit with a nuke, bam, no more os x. everyone can download the source of linux so that means that it will live forever 2) its not freeware most of the time and they make you agree the horrible lisences which sometimes require you to sell your soul to that company (not really but close ) the only problem with open source software is that its almost always written for x86 and us x64 guys miss out on a lot. but usually its just a matter of editing some simple code to get it to run

yup that's what i'm thinking in this precise moment , I agree with opensource software in Governamental institutions for example.. i would agree that instead of having office2k7 classes i had openoffice for example.. but that's the way things are
