- The iPod Touch 2G is now another member of the “pwned for life” family. It has a fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you will always be able to pwn these devices no matter what firmware updates come along. This is the full, untethered jailbreak, something that iPod Touch 2G users have not had before today.
Those of you who hang out on IRC or were able to read between the lines in the various blogs, forums, wikis and twitters may realize that we — and importantly, that’s a that’s a collective, cross-team “we” — had been hoping to hold onto this full ipt2g jailbreak until the next version of the iPhone came out. That didn’t happen, but maybe it’s too late for Apple to fix the bootrom in the next iPhone.
The raw patch to the firmware that transforms the “tethered” jailbreak into an untethered one was released here but it’s not yet packaged up into the PwnageTool or QuickPwn flows. But other threads there are pulling together tutorials and other tips for those of you anxious to try this out now. For the curious, the hole itself is explained here. There’s also a “pen and paper” analysis that helped the hybrid team venture transform the hole into an exploit. Hopefully that will be up for viewing soon too, if only because of its geeky beauty
Anyway, to all those iPod Touch 2G users out there who waited so patiently through all the various incarnations of the jailbreak for Apple’s latest device — welcome to the family!
For the rest of us, the jailbreak “cat and mouse” game will continue in the summer with the next iPhone. And the carrier unlock “cat and mouse” game continues as ever. Source: Dev-Team Blog - iPod Touch 2G: Hi, welcome to the jailbreak family
Personally, I'm waiting for a GUI seeing as it's my first time
EDIT: Update! Someone else has created a GUI with lots of people saying it works. A friend on twitter is trying it as I speak QuickFreedom

People who already jailbreaked, just follow this simple tutorial to get untethered (only patch applied, no apps or settings from jailbreak lost!)

I saw this this morning, great news. I have been using the tethered jailbreak for about 3 days before this full jailbreak came out. So this morning i backed up my files, restored to original and then used QuickFreedom to re-jailbreak. Worked like a charm, so i am well pleased
But i knew they had a Full Jailbreak awhile back, but you can understand why they did not want to release it just yet. But with this NitroKey episode they were forced to release it, well i am not complaining

randomus_r i think i still have ecletic.. it's a good lockscreen but with all the hassle i just dind't use it anymore :\ @randomus, kflakes15 no problem buddies
and as it applies to games, i have bejeweled 2, and Tower Bloxx 3D edition (it's veeeery funny ) ... just haven't got time to download spore (or even find a nice repository with it..) but might just be frickin' ace as the pc version is (it's very funny to command the nation you've created since it was a bacteria to attack every other race in earth lolololol )

not my screenshot but you get the idea. :p http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=qrhqie&s=5 that lockscreen is ACE, but for me the problem is messing around with system fonts :\ , i had Ecletic also.. but abandoned it cause.. u know not every theme out there goes well with it...
the lockscreen used in picnic for example is Amazing too.. and you don't have to mess around with system files :\
