I have currently been very bored staying in on a saturday night and seeing how lots of people love 32px icons on their desktop I though I'd attempt a CAD skin to compliment that. Obviously there is alot of work to do on it - can anyone make any suggestion on what I can put in it to liven it up a little? ie; popup labels, toolbars, etc. etc.

Looks pretty good. 
Just one thing, is it just the preview or is the font that blurry?

I think it's because of the size of the font and the badly positioned shadow (as I said, alot of work to do!). Could also be a GDI++ and CAD combo. Considering using something other than Lucida Grande anyway..

Well I recommend a nice pixel font to go with the whole small and pixely size theme.
Umm, and are you going to do controls? If so I recommend putting them on a panel the will pop up when you click the cover, of course that's just my personal preference though.
Looking good so far though

Too addon, I also agree that you can add controls that popup when you click the cover  . Perhaps they could go under the text and cover
