So, I just been given a deal, presuming I find a job that is . I can get a macbook, and pay a third, and my family will chip in and help pay the other two thirds. So I been poking around on apples website, trying to find suitable prices and customising hardware.
I found that the newly upgraded white macbook I can get for £259 with 4GB RAM and a 250GB HDD, but the RAM is only DDR2.
But I also been thinking of getting the 2.4GHz Macbook Alumin one. Bumped the RAM up to 4GB and harddrive to 250GB and its £401.
So I guess it depends how long i can wait, when I get a job. I think I'd prefer the aluminum one since its RAM is DDR3. Thing is, it'll prolly be a music keeping, internet browsing, photoshopping, multimedia laptop, for when I go away from home, so is it worth the white one or the aluminum?
(Sorry for my bad typing, my keyboard is having a fit, need batteries!)

I tapped my parents up for buying me any possible mac as one present for birthday, christmas and easter plus partly paying for it through me working in my dad's business and the fact I may possibly at some remote point need it for school. Still didn't get it, gawd knows why
Anyhoo, sorry for the thread hijacking *slinkies away*

If you can afford it, I would go with the aluminum one . However, if you don't really think you need it just get the white one
That's how I see it

get the DDR3. it really feels different. Its much better in the end and also you'd be keeping with the times congrats on the mac book btw but you COULD buy something MUCH better and just use OSx86

I was tempted, but OSx86 means hassle, and I've hassled enough with it, i'd rather a macbook. But if theres something better that it works out of the box with, im all ears
Edit:I also decided i might try and save for the 2.0GHz model, since I don't need the 2.4GHz, just the 4GB of ram...

that's a good choice.. there's not much of a difference between the 2,4 and the 2,0 Ghz processors

You know most people buy a macbook for the look of it too, right? people mainly buy Apple products because of its aesthetics and forget that their paying a BIG price for a not so "buffed" up computer/mp3 player.

Well to be honest, I asked my tutor, and he said there's no much difference between DDR2 and 3, well not noticable anyway, so I may go the way of the white one... less money = ossumsauce!

4gb helps if he's working with big psd files or with movie editing..
ps : i think you can buy cheaper ram (aka non apple), but be aware that the macbook only has 2 slots for ram sticks i guess.

i would suggest getting the white one, mainly because its cheaper, the DDR3 doesn't really make a difference IMO the only difference your going to notice is the 0.4Ghz processor upgrade. the glass trackpad in the aluminium is nice, but not really necessary if your going to be doing photoshop etc your going to be using an external mouse anyway.
major flaw in the aluminium macbooks is the screen, its glossy(the glossy screen can get really REALLY annoying) and over saturates colours, so its not that good for designing if your going to be doing a lot of it on there in the future. and its lacking firewire if you use firewire.
so all in all i just suggest that you get the white one with 4gb of ram, the ram is necessary for handling massive PSD files.

My thoughts exactly tbh, spot on . I'm managing to run 10.5 on my IBM for now, untill I get a real one, probably some time in the summer, till I get enough cash. Thanks for all your guys and girls opinions.
