OK, just thought I'd post some intresting rumors speculating the new iMacs:

Quote :
It seems that an upgraded iMac is a shoe-in at Macworld Expo in January. It's a consumer show, and the iMac is Apple's consumer desktop. Plus, it hasn't received a significant change in a while, so it's due. Now that the winter holidays are just about over, the Expo rumors have begun to circulate.

AppleInsider has posted a few iMac rumors. First is mention of a new "...magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis," as well as a "cooling module." That's all the details there are, folks, so your guess is as good as ours if the current fan system will be replaced. We all know Steve and Jon Ive like quiet machines.

The more solid rumor is about the new 65W, low-power, quad-core desktop chips Apple is expecting from Intel. Along with Acer, HP and Dell, Apple has decided to make use of these chips, according to DigiTimes, though their target machine has not been identified. DigiTimes claims that these chips are suited to small form factor and all-in-one PCs.

More details have surfaced about Apple's new iMac rumored for release next month.

Economic Daily News, a Chinese publication that reported the iMac rumor last week, says the new all-in-one desktops will sport magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. Further backing the rumor of new iMacs, the publication also cited the suppliers of the machine's cooling module.

The publication says component providers Foxconn and Catcher Technology are supplying the aluminum chassis. And Foxconn is partnering with Auras Technology to provide the cooling module, the report says.

Though these details are still rumors, it's highly likely a new iMac will be launched January. It's been about eight months since Apple last refreshed its iMac; January's Macworld Expo 2009 would be a prime opportunity to announce upgrades.

We're guessing the iMacs will ship with a quad-core CPU -- in anticipation of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which Apple says will optimize multi-core systems.

Configuration files buried within some versions of Mac OS X show evidence that the next iMac and Mac Mini will indeed be based on the NVIDIA MCP79 chipset. Apple recently switched their MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models to the NVIDIA chipsets in October. Amongst other benefits, the new notebooks have much improved graphics card capabilities, which make them more suitable to take advantage of OpenCL technologies coming in Snow Leopard.

Apple will apparently be bringing these improvements to both the new iMac and Mac mini. While many have expected the iMac to receive these upgrades, the fate of the Mac mini has been less certain.

A configuration file found in the Mac OS X version that ships with the new MacBook and MacBook Pros reveal entries referencing unreleased "MacMini3,1" and "iMac9,1" models. The relevant lines have been excerpted here:

Quote :
The CFG_MCP79 appears to refer to the NVIDIA MCP79 chipset, which suggests these unannounced models will use this new chipset. The currently shipping iMac and Macmini carry model numbers of iMac8,1 and Macmini2,1. The findings were originally described in a forum post that we've subsequently verified. The references are found in System -> Library -> Extensions -> IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -> Contents -> PlugIns -> ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext -> Contents -> Info.plist in the new MacBook or MacBook Pro.

I'm stoked! The iMac is going to be my first Apple computer! I'm glad I haven't bought one last December.

well, its about time they update either mac mini or pro or even imac...
i wanted to buy a mac, since the mini is the less expensive one that would be the choice ... hope they raise it's standards cause 160 gb of disk space or 1gb ram is not recent
