How can we go about editing msstlyes files on Vista? I tried using ResEdit from TGT Soft, but I can't seem to find anything in there like you can on XP. All the files look like code.

I'm a tweaker, and like to do some slight mods on the msstyles files to suit my needs.

Any tips?

I'm using 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks!

I'll give ResHack a shot when I have some time. I didn't like it on XP.

The weird thing is, in ResEdit, you expand a group, click on an item, and the preview pane fills with HEX first. There's a button to convert it to text, but what's the point of doing that if you are after an image? Plus, the text files look more like garbage as text than they do in HEX.

If ResHack is any better, I'll post how I muddled through it. Thanks for the links!

Actually, as I reread one of the posts in the aeroXP link, it seems you have to save the files first before you can edit them. Something about "save as binary file", and give it the appropriate extension. Finding image files is going to be hunt and peck, I'm sure.

No luck with ResEdit. sad

I'll give ResHack a try in a few days when I have time. I didn't really like that program on XP. tongue

Fingers crossed!

Ok, using reshack, I can extract the images. As I guessed, it is mostly hunt and peck.

But, I want to edit the INI files that describe font, which image to use, etc. When I extract those, I get something like this:

Quote :
y Ê } Ê ú Ê ßßßÿ Ü Ì ëëë Ý Ì õõõ Þ Ì ~~~ ß Ì ŒŒŒ à Ì ððð è Ì ÿÿÿ ¦ È Û Ì ™️ Ë ª È J
Ð ê Ì sss ! Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i " Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i # Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i $ Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i % Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i & Ò \ ôÿÿÿ C a l i b r i é Ë ± Ï ² Ï ³ Ï ´ Ï µ Ï ¶ Ï · Ï ¸ Ï ¹ Ï º Ï Ê y É c p w e b v w . c s s z É d e f a u l t . x m l A Ì ÔÐÈ B Ì ××× C Ì ååå D Ì ××× E Ì ððð F Ì ÿÿÿ G Ì H Ì I Ì J

None of this makes any sense to me. Anyone have any clues? I can only find people talking about editing the images, not the code files.

Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place. I don't know. It's frustrating to say the least.

Wordpad vs notepad doesn't matter. Still shows the garbage.

I'm abandoning for now, because I don't have the time to mess with it. Maybe something more useful that my deviantART link will come along before then. Unless I bite the bullet and just get Stylebuilder, but I don't think that saves in msstyles. I could be wrong.
