technically i love Linux more, or else i wouldnt have tried this xD

Ok so heres the story, OS X leopard comes with X11 installed. X11 is a runtime enviroment and happens to be the same one that linux runs off of. I thought, well, maybe this means i can run GNOME on linux no? so i thought, well, time for some expiramentation eh? So i got to trying to use Fink to install my favorite (not really its just that the source is really small tongue) game called trackballs. Of course, due to my luck and wonderful karma Fink just wouldnt work. Damn.... well, this is the fun part now happy i get to do some hacking. So i start and i open terminal, try to do the standard install tasks that i would use on linux from source. works like a charm, except that now i have these random root paths and dont relate to anything at all. What to do now? Well, simple, change paths right? but to where... after about an hour of expiramentation i got trackballs to work, and heres proof

it ended up pretty simple. Of course, then i had to go and find out that i had to update the Fink libraries before i tryed to install anything or else it wouldnt work, great reading skills alex T_T *slaps self* So now, tommorow i have a huge project. Installing the GNOME window manager on OS X 10.5.5 using X11 and FinkCommander to compile the source code. Now if you dont know anything about window managers and the like and X11, you may be thinking that it will end up being a real simple job right? just install from fink? nah, more paths to edit (i assume at least, if it ends up that i can just install from Fink then god bless those who did it first), more values to change ect. If all goes well you might be seeing my OS X screenshots look a lot like they did from my linux days! happy but the whole point of this was to tell you guys about a great software called Fink and FinkCommander, now if your not familiar with Linux Source insallations this may not be for you if your afraid of breaking your install (which always sucks doesnt it?) but if your like me and just cant resist this spicy challenge then have a go at it yourself and see what you come up with. I might try to install the linux version of firefox or maybe even SwiftFox :O Oh yeah, once you install trackballs from fink, u need to use terminal to open it so i need to look into writing a small apple script for me to use on boot that will actually emulate the Nautilus boot sequence and allow me to get an almost fully running Linux like distro off of the OS X10.5.5 Darwin Kernel 2.4.0 ^_^
