I would like to make my hard drive titles in Japanese or Chinese characters but have no idea how to do it or make it say the right thing so if anyone could help that would be appreciated.

Here Katakana. The only Japanese writing system you need to know
If your computer can't display the characters use this image as reference.

Well you can't make the word hard disk out of those.
You will need the japanese word for hard disk or hard drive.
Which is ハードディスクドライブ(from wiki :P) and translate that into romanji (via the picture) which is.. Hatoteisukutoraifu.
I'm not sure if that is the actual phrase, it seems a bit long. I did learn katakana but only some of it stuck. :/

There isn't. The same there is no L.
You think that A=one character, B=another and so on. Its a completely different writing system. So technically its not an alphabet. The other writig system is Hiragana which is exactly the same, different characters and then there is Kanji, which is similar to the Chinese writing system and it is complicated as hell where characters represent words.
The more you know... :P
